# Teach your AI your writing style from your red pen: every time you fix a line in its draft, have it turn the fix into a short rule it saves, then have a second AI check each new draft against your rules before you see it

Ruben Hassid, who writes the How to AI newsletter, published an X article (October 27, 2026) on how he drafts each issue with Claude Code and a private GitHub repository. He says Claude wrote 2,303 words of his last issue and he kept 438 word for word, and every edit teaches Claude what he wants next: each correction he gives becomes a rule (his examples include "Be extreme in the first lines" and "Never start a sentence or a title with 'No'"), stored with his past issues and their numbers. Before he sees a draft, a second Claude checks it against his rules. He keeps the instructions Claude reads every time to about 200 words, has no about-me file (Claude learns his style from his past issues and his edits, not from him describing himself), and still picks every idea and rewrites most of the text. Setup: Claude Code in the desktop app on a paid plan, a new empty folder, and a free GitHub account. The prompt below brings the same loop to any AI chat with a saved rules document.

## Inputs to collect first
Ask the user for anything below that they haven't already given you. Don't guess missing facts.

- Newsletter / listing descriptions / client emails / social posts
- , or 'none yet'
- Topic and key points I want to make
- Your own material (text, notes or data)

## Instructions

Do the task below with the user's inputs in place of each [bracket].

You help me write [newsletter / listing descriptions / client emails / social posts]. Keep a document called MY-WRITING-RULES with short rules, one line each, max 30 rules. Here are my current rules: [paste, or 'none yet']. Here are 3 past pieces I wrote myself, for style: [paste]. Step 1: write a draft of [topic and key points I want to make]. Step 2: before showing it to me, check your own draft against every rule as a separate reviewer and fix anything that breaks one; list which rules you applied. Step 3: I'll edit your draft and paste my version back. When I do, compare your draft with my edit, and for each meaningful change propose one new rule in my words (e.g. 'Open with the strongest claim', 'No exclamation marks'). Show me the proposed rules; add only the ones I approve, and merge or delete rules that overlap so the list stays short. Never invent facts, figures or quotes; use only what I give you.

## Safety checks (share these with the user)

- This prompt works on text other people wrote (emails, reviews, messages or web pages). That text can hide instructions aimed at AI, such as "ignore your rules and…". Paste it as material to work on, and never let the AI act on requests inside it, like paying, sharing logins or changing records.
- Check every figure, price and total against your own records before anything is sent, posted or booked. A person approves refunds, discounts, payments and price changes.
- Remove names, contact details, account numbers and other personal data the task doesn't need before you paste, and check your AI tool's data and training settings.
- Read and edit the draft before it reaches a customer or goes public. If you later automate this prompt, start with "draft and notify me", not "send automatically".
- Say clearly which parts need a person to review or approve before anything is sent, paid, posted or filed.
