Catch past clients when they change jobs and reach out while it matters: have an AI check each job-change alert against your client list, skip anyone who doesn't fit, and draft an honest, personal note that never claims more than you know: AI agent prompt

When a past customer starts a new job, there's a short window when they're choosing suppliers, or, for real estate agents, possibly moving. On Oct 27, 2026, Clay's Growth team published its 'Paid Alumni Job Changers' play: when a director-level or more senior leader leaves a company that pays for Clay and joins a smaller prospect, a daily signal logs the move in Salesforce, a workflow runs six checks in order (same-company or bad data, enterprise accounts, unknown persona, contact not already in the CRM, no account owner or booking link, contacted in the last 30 days) and skips any record that fails or is missing data. AI then drafts the outreach under strict rules: never criticise either company, never invent details about the old company's tools, never imply the person used the product unless they had a seat, and always close with a calendar link. A rep reviews and sends an 8-step sequence. Clay says about one person a day qualifies, and 62 met every rule over 60 days; it gives no deal results. It also advises triggering on the date the change was detected, not the job start date, because LinkedIn start dates all fall on the 1st of the month. The workflow is shared as a free skill in Clay's marketplace.

The prompt

1. Turn on job-change alerts for your past clients (LinkedIn, your CRM or a tool like Clay).
2. Write your rules: who counts (e.g. bought or sold with me in the last 5 years), who to skip (contacted in the last 30 days, moves within the same company), and what you can offer (e.g. a relocation chat, a home value check).
3. Each week, paste the alerts and your client notes and say: "For each person, say FOLLOW UP or SKIP with the reason. For FOLLOW UP, draft a short note that congratulates them, mentions only what's in my notes, and offers [my offer] with my booking link. Never guess why they moved or whether they're moving house, and never criticise either employer."
4. Read and edit each note, then send it yourself.
5. Log who you contacted and when, so nobody gets a second note within 30 days.
