How to install a skill

Claude.ai (web and desktop app)

  1. Download the skill's .zip for Claude.ai from the list below. Each zip holds one folder with its SKILL.md inside, which is the layout Claude expects.
  2. In Claude, open Customize > Skills, click +, choose Upload a skill and pick the zip.
  3. Make sure the skill is switched on. After that, just ask for the job in plain words, like "triage these support tickets".

Claude Code

Save the file as ~/.claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md for all your projects, or as .claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md inside one project. Claude uses it automatically when it fits, or you can type /skill-name. (Claude Code docs)

Cursor

Put the folder in .cursor/skills/ or .agents/skills/ in your project, or in ~/.cursor/skills/ to use it everywhere. Cursor also reads skills saved in .claude/skills/. Type / in Agent chat to pick one. (Cursor docs)

What is a Claude skill (SKILL.md)?

A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file inside. The file starts with a short name and description, then gives the AI step-by-step instructions. The AI reads the description, and when your request matches it, it loads the instructions and follows them. You no longer have to paste the same long prompt each time.

Do these skills work outside Claude?

Yes. SKILL.md is an open format. Claude Code, Cursor and OpenAI's Codex all load skills from a skills folder, as described in the install steps above. In plain ChatGPT or Gemini chat, open the prompt page and copy the prompt instead.

Which Claude plan do I need to upload a skill?

Anthropic says skills on Claude.ai need a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan with code execution turned on. On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner may need to turn skills on first. Claude Code works with skills on any plan that includes Claude Code.

Are these skills free? Do I need an account?

They are free and you don't need an account. Every skill on this page comes from a free prompt in the library. Pro prompts are not included.

Is it safe to install skills from the internet?

Only install skills you have read and trust, because a skill tells the AI what to do. These skills are short plain-text files with no scripts, so you can read every line first. Each one also lists the checks to do before you use the AI's answer, and says what a person should approve before anything is sent, paid, posted or filed.
