How to install AI agent skills: every app, one checklist
Pick your skills and your AI app, copy one command, done. Below that: where each app keeps skills, a safety checklist for client data, and fixes for the usual problems. Examples use the real estate packs, but it works for every free skill on this site.
Where each app keeps skills
| App | For all projects | For one project | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | ~/.claude/skills/ | .claude/skills/ | docs |
| OpenAI Codex | ~/.agents/skills/ | .agents/skills/ | docs |
| Cursor | ~/.cursor/skills/ | .agents/skills/ | docs |
| Claude app (Cowork, claude.ai) | Customize > Plugins (upload a plugin zip) or Customize > Skills (one skill zip) | Not used | docs |
| ChatGPT, Gemini (chat) | Not supported: copy the prompt from the prompt page | Not used | prompts |
Each skill is a folder named after the skill with one SKILL.md inside, for example ~/.claude/skills/al-311-write-a-listing-description-from-your-walkthrough-notes-t/SKILL.md. Checked against each app's docs and the skills CLI agent list on November 1, 2026.
Three ways to install, from easiest
- One command.
npx skills add <pack URL>reads the pack's skills index, lets you choose skills and agents, and copies the files. Needs Node.js 22.20+. - Upload a zip. In the Claude app, upload a pack's plugin zip under Customize > Plugins, or one skill's zip under Customize > Skills.
- Paste an install prompt. Every pack page has one. Paste it into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor and the agent saves the files and checks them first.
Safety checklist before you install any skill
- A skill is instructions to your AI. If you would not give the instruction to an assistant, do not install it.
- Ours are plain text only. A skill folder with .sh, .py or .js files can run code on your computer.
- Be wary of instructions to download other files, visit URLs or send data somewhere.
- Use a business or team AI plan for client details, and follow your brokerage's AI policy.
- Messages, ads, offers, payments and filings need your review first.
- Install from a page you can trace, and re-check after updates.
Troubleshooting
- The skill does not show up. Check the path: the folder name must match the
name:line and the file must be calledSKILL.md. Start a new session after adding skills. - It never runs on its own. Ask in words close to the skill's description ("write a listing description from my notes"), or call it by name (type
/in Claude Code or Cursor). - Claude.ai upload fails. Upload one skill zip per skill (a folder with SKILL.md inside), check code execution is on, and on Team or Enterprise ask an owner to allow skills.
npx skillserrors. Update Node.js to 22.20 or newer, then run the--listcommand first to see what it finds.- Too many skills loaded. Install only the pack for your role. Each extra skill adds its description to what your AI reads first.

Questions
What is the difference between a skill and a plugin?
A skill is one SKILL.md instruction file. A Claude plugin is a package that can hold several skills (and other parts) so you install them together. Our plugin zips hold skills only.
Do skills work offline?
The skill file is stored on your computer, but your AI app still needs its normal connection to run.
How do I remove a skill?
Delete its folder from the skills folder, or remove the plugin under Customize > Plugins in the Claude app. With the CLI, run npx skills remove.
