Treat each AI agent like a hire: give it one job and a written job description it reads every time it starts, have it draft and wait for your yes, then compare its cost with the contractor bill it replaced: AI agent prompt
Ian Tenenbaum, who coaches founders with ADHD, posted on LinkedIn in October 2026 that he treats each AI agent like a hire. Each has one job (one runs his day like a chief of staff, one writes with him in his voice, one keeps track of every member), each reads its job description every time it starts, and nothing goes out without his yes. He says agents now do work he used to pay for in development, marketing, community management and software, for $1,324 a month, saving him $57,768 a year. Self-reported, and his post also promotes his workshop. Replacing contractors means you now own the quality and upkeep of that work.
The prompt
1. Write down what you pay each month for outside help and software, line by line. 2. Pick the line with the most repeat work, like [follow ups, newsletters, member tracking]. 3. Write a short job description for one agent: its one job, your rules, and what it must never do. 4. Say: "You are my [chief of staff]. Read this job description first every time: [your rules]." 5. Add: "Each morning, list my follow ups that are due, draft the messages, and wait for my yes before sending anything." 6. After a month, compare what the agent costs with the bill it replaced. 7. Add a second agent with a different single job only once the first one works. Safety: nothing goes out without your yes, and check the agent's work before you cancel a contractor.

Before you use it: what to check
Already built into this prompt
- Write a short job description for one agent: its one job, your rules, and what it must never do.
Check yourself
- Check every figure, price and total against your own records before anything is sent, posted or booked. A person approves refunds, discounts, payments and price changes.
- Remove names, contact details, account numbers and other personal data the task doesn't need before you paste, and check your AI tool's data and training settings.
- Read and edit the draft before it reaches a customer or goes public. If you later automate this prompt, start with "draft and notify me", not "send automatically".
- Check names, dates, numbers and any claim against your own source material before you use the answer. AI can misread or invent details.
