Make your weekly flyer from a photo: highlight the items in your supplier's catalogue, photograph the pages and have an AI assistant turn them into the week's ad, then use the same trick for staff schedules and paper time cards: AI agent prompt
Retyping a supplier catalogue into a weekly ad eats hours a small shop owner doesn't have. In SaverAI issue #25 (Oct 31, 2026), Theodore Liauw writes about Tom Mulholland, 66, who runs a grocery on Main Street in Malvern, Iowa, citing his interview with the Washington Examiner. Until September he highlighted items in his wholesaler's catalogue and spent a couple of hours typing them into the weekly ad. Now he photographs the highlighted pages and sends them to Meta's Muse assistant, and the job takes about 15 minutes. He does the same for the staff schedule he rewrites every two weeks and for photographed time cards, which he says cut at least 15 minutes from payroll; the article puts the total at about 90 minutes a week. The article also cites a Bentley University-Gallup survey in which 49% of people disapproved of companies using AI to make their advertising, so the point is to make the ad you already need faster, not to make more ads. Shops, restaurants and property managers with printed price lists can use the same approach with any AI tool that reads photos, checking every price before it's printed.
The prompt
1. Highlight the items and prices you want in this week's supplier catalogue or price list. 2. Photograph each highlighted page clearly, in good light. 3. Send the photos to your AI assistant and ask: "Read only the highlighted items in these photos. Make a table of item, size and sale price, then lay them out as my weekly ad for [store name] in this order: [meat, produce, grocery]. Use these dates: [dates]. Don't add any item or price that isn't highlighted, and mark anything you couldn't read clearly." 4. Check every price against the catalogue, fix anything marked, then ask for a print and a Facebook version. 5. Next week, try the same with a photo of your paper staff schedule or time cards, and check the hours before they go to payroll.

- Don't let AI make the final call on hiring, pay, performance or discipline. Use it to organise information, and have a person decide using criteria you can explain.
- Check hours, breaks, overtime and any rules for young workers against your local labour law and staff contracts before you publish a schedule.
- Remove names, contact details, account numbers and other personal data the task doesn't need before you paste, and check your AI tool's data and training settings.
