Practise a language speaking exam with an AI examiner: have it play the role from the real test task (like a real estate agent you must question), keep strict exam timing, then mark you against the official criteria: AI agent prompt

Speaking tests for immigration and study, such as the TCF for people moving to Canada, are hard to practise alone because you need someone to play the other person and keep you on the clock. On Oct 27, 2026 Jonathan, who teaches French to people moving to Canada, shared a real, uncut session with the AI examiner he built for the TCF speaking test: he plays the candidate and the AI plays a real estate agent he has to talk to. He says he built his own teaching platform himself with Claude Code, with no development background. You don't need to build a platform to get similar practice: the voice mode in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini can play the examiner if you give it the task, the timing and the marking criteria. The prompt below sets that up for any language exam; check the official exam guide for the real task types, timings and scoring before you rely on the marks.

The prompt

Be my speaking examiner for the [exam, e.g. TCF Canada / TEF / DELF B2 / IELTS] in [language]. My current level: [e.g. B1]. Exam date: [ ]. 1) Run one role-play task like the real test: you play [a role, e.g. a real estate agent renting me an apartment], I must ask you questions and get the information I need. Stay in role, answer only what I ask, and speak at a natural exam pace. 2) Keep exam conditions: tell me the task, give me [preparation time if the exam has it], then time my answer to [the official duration; mark [CHECK] if unsure] and stop me when time is up. 3) After the task, switch to teacher mode and in [my native language] mark me on task completion, range of vocabulary, grammar accuracy, pronunciation and fluency using the official criteria for this exam; quote 3 of my sentences and give a corrected version of each. 4) Give me 10 useful phrases for this kind of task and one drill to fix my biggest weakness. 5) Offer the next task at the same or slightly harder level. Never give me a score you present as official.
