Prove your website backups actually work: have an AI set up encrypted off-site backups for every site you run, test a full restore, then check backups daily and alert you the moment one stops: AI agent prompt

Many small businesses, agents and brokerages assume their website is backed up until the day they need it. On Nov 1, 2026, the owner of a small IT and field-service business posted on X about a week of work done with the Claude app and Claude Code. Among other jobs, every website he hosts now has encrypted backups stored off-site and he tested that they actually restore; his client monitoring now sends a security summary every morning, runs daily backup checks and alerts him if a backup ever stops. He also said he patched recently disclosed PHP vulnerabilities across several client sites within hours. Results are owner-reported and no costs were given.

The prompt

1. Ask your AI to help you list every website, domain and hosting account you're responsible for, who hosts each one, and what backups exist today (if you don't know, write 'unknown').
2. Ask: "For each site, give me step-by-step instructions, for a non-expert, to set up automatic encrypted backups stored somewhere other than the web server [cloud storage you use], keeping [30] days of copies. Use my host's built-in tools or a well-known plugin where possible."
3. Pick one site and test a restore to a staging copy or a test address, never over the live site. Ask the AI to walk you through it and give you a checklist to confirm pages, forms, images and logins work.
4. Ask it to set up a daily check that confirms each backup ran and is a normal size, and sends you one short morning message: all OK, or which site failed.
5. Repeat the restore test on a different site each month and log the date and result.
6. Have the AI keep a one-page recovery sheet: where backups live, how to restore, and who to call.
